Currently in the exhibition I have small framed astrophotography image ‘Home – near Alison Park’ happily alongside a beautiful poetic work of Tracey Sullivan’s.
The online Waiheke Artmap lets you geolocate studios and galleries, their websites, hours, contacts and location, so if you’re exploring the island by car, bike, bus or walking you can plan your studio tour from wherever you are!
And Save the Date! Kings Birthday Weekend will be a festive feast of Open Studios around the island, watch this space!
Haven’t done a post for a while, it’s been a busy 2024. Here’s a quick one, the studio on Aotea is progressing well and have started mapping the tracks and will document and illustrate the trees along the way…. opening the new doors through the mulberry tree!
Still a way to go in Oneroa, but we’ll get there!

Up at the Waiheke community Art Gallery is this years Members Show. Exploring the broad theme of ‘Home’ which is defined as a dwelling or location of culture and origin; home also signifies a sense of place, belonging, relationships, memory, comfort, security, and safety. The exhibitions is full of colour and creativity in response.
Check out ‘Heading Home- The Navigator’ a limited edition digital print on archival paper. I hear it mentioned that it should have been hung landscape format but….. no it’s the right way up.. or down…. The image is captured from approx. 2,500 ft looking straight down at the Navigator, the ferry that services the island.
This is part of a new body of work exploring the journey to and from Aotea Great Barrier Island.
Starting to get colder, time for quiet creativity. The studio is coming along amongst all the other busyness!

There are new exhibitions up at the Waiheke Community Art Gallery and Anomalous and around the motu now the seasons beckon more indoor activities and contemplation.

Check out the up coming Waiheke Weekender double page Map for all the Open Studios over the last long weekend before the autumn sets in. Perpetual Guardian Sculpture on the Gulf 2024is on until 24 March so come on over! There’s a lot to discover, explore and enjoy with stunning exhibitions on at the Waiheke Community Art Gallery and the other studios and galleries around the island!

Well, how many Queens Birthday long weekends have been spent at the old studio celebrating the Waiheke Winter Arts Festival? – Many happy times!….now it’s the Kings Birthday Weekend..still a nice long weekend for everyone.
So as I write I’m wearing two hats, attending the RASNZ Conference https://www.rasnzconference.org.nz/ excellent! and on the breaks continuing to make improvements on the studio, primarily making room to get the piano down, lining the walls, getting the storage and lighting sorted ready for a celebration opening when its all finished! I’m open tho’ so feel free to pop in and see the progress!
